At Ovolo, we believe it is important to continue the use of fibrous plaster techniques. For those wondering, these techniques include the use of hessian, laths and plaster of Paris. The processes we follow have been used for over 100 years, we still cut our profiles out by hand into zinc sheets, we file the profiles by hand and so on. Of course, there are examples where we have moved with the times such as using silicone instead of the older melted rubbers. So why do we choose to take new methods on and use some old ones? We believe it is important keep our beautiful craft alive - so many trades have become deskilled and ‘watered-down’, we are dedicated to keeping ours going.

We have briefly spoken about how we manufacture our products, so let’s touch on how we restore original plaster features. Two the right are 4 pictures, two are damaged original ceiling roses and cornices whilst the other two are the same pieces after being restored. Each job is different, however in the ceiling rose project we decided to take down individual sections of the rose and remove the paint. Once the paint was removed, we poured the individual pieces using a silicone rubber to create a mould. We then cast our the required amount of pieces from the mould to re-create a new rose. As you can see, the results are fantastic.

We provide complimentary consultations to discuss your specification and expected results. From here, a second visit will be arranged where we will show samples and pictures to aid in decision-making. This personal approach isn’t offered by many, but we believe it’s what makes us unique.
